Point Barrow, Cape Barrow and Barrow Strait were named in his honour as was Barrow, Alaska. F E$100+

348 Sir John Franklin 1786-1847 - although he took part in the great sea battle of Trafalgar, he is best remembered for his surveys of the Arctic. Over 3000 miles of the coast line of Northern Canada were mapped out by him and he died there. His last voyage was a search for the North West Passage. This lot includes his autograph plus letter (1866) from his widow Lady Franklin explaining that his autograph is in short supply and difficult for her to supply. E$400+
